New CD 2008 : Shadow Love

In classic Texas tradition with a touch of modern flare, these songs weave stories about dreams gone wrong, love gone bad and that glimpse of sunshine through a dusty cracked window.

After more than a year in production, the long awaited release of Shadow Love by Dag King is here. This latest North American release from Norwegian native Dag King is a strong and eclectic blend of Alternative Country, Rock, Folk and Pop. Influenced by his love for traditional Texas music, King’s strong song writing style sparked interest from musicians who have helped shape that Texas sound. Most notable is a guest vocal appearance by Myrtie Payne, daughter of famous songwriter and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, Leon Payne, on an intimate remake of Payne’s “I Love You Because.” Another heavyweight who contributed to the recording is guitarist Bill Hullett whose work has graced collaborations with Shania Twain, Keith Richards, George Jones and Merle Haggard. Rounding out the team of seasoned musicians that brought King’s ideas to fruition are Rick Willis on drums, Emmett Roch on steel guitar, Lazy Brad Lewis on guitar, Patrick Harris and Brandon Bigelow on Bass, and Lisa Schneider and Kimbeau Keating on violin.

Dag King and Myrtie Payne Team Up on

Leon Payne’s Classic Hit “I Love You Because” When Dag King, a Norwegian-Texan singer songwriter, met Myrtie Payne in the fall of 2007 he never dreamed he would soon be in the studio singing with her on a song her dad had written more than fifty years ago in 1949. Myrtie even let Dag record with her dad's famous 1937 Martin acoustic guitar, given to Leon Payne by his friend Hank Williams Sr.

With much of contemporary country music turning to the classic styles of the 40’s and 50’s, and the recent acclaim given to the new Willie Nelson duet of Leon Payne’s famous “Lost Highway” with Norwegian pop sensation Kurt Nilsen, Dag King and Myrtie Payne are certainly in fine company with these two heartfelt versions of “I Love You Because”. All of this attention is introducing many new fans to the numerous hits penned by Leon Payne. Some of the artists that have recorded his songs include Elvis Presley, Elvis Costello, Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Charlie Rich, Jeff Buckley, and of course the great Hank Williams Sr.

Dag and Myrtie are joined on these recordings by Emmett Roch on dobro, Patrick Harris on double bass, Kimbeau Keating on fiddle, and producer James Laurance on drums. Carefully mastered by Jerry Tubb at Terra Nova Digital Audio, these recordings were fine-tuned for both a future limited edition vinyl pressing and the mp3 downloads.

Fifth full-length album,
